Religion provides comfort to many people. Many atheists do not have any mechanisms that can provide the same type of comfort.
I know I am grossly oversimplifying but I think there is some truth in this.

Drugs have the same effect as religion, so would you advocate the use of drugs?
Try and get into the real world and get a life while it lasts.

Well being delusional can lead to a false happiness, but I'm a pretty happy atheist. I was a miserable Christian.
Also, proof of these claims dear.

Atheists in the US only. Sweden and Denmark have the highest happiness ratings according to surveys and they're highly secular. It may have something to do with the company they have to keep.

Perhaps, but observable facts in Y!A show the majority of christians have severe lack of proper grammar and spelling.
The word atheist is not capitalized, also the word you're looking for is atheism not atheist.

I know I would hate to wake up every day thinking my life had no more meaning then the monkey's at the zoo.
As far as I know...the monkeys find more purpose to their life than an atheist. At least they can enjoy sticking their fingers up their butt and smile all day long.

First, I'm Atheist and I've been Atheist since I was around 12. I'm not depressed due to not having a religion; I would say depression has nothing to do with how religious a person is. I know another girl who is Penocostal (spelling sucks, I know) that cuts and is very depressed.

It probably is, but it would be easier to answer if you would define "unhappy life." I can only say that facing life in a serious, mature way, may not lead you to a "happy" life as some may think of it, but it may be even more rewarding than having faith. I prefer planning my life rather than "hoping" for things to happen, and it makes me feel fulfilled. But that's only mi view, and it does not answer to your question.
